In September 1998 a new banking rule became effective (see NACHA News), that permits any organization that receives nonsufficient funds (NSF) checks to redeposit them electronically. Electronic collections are done through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network. This is the same network that banks use to transfer funds between banks and that many organizations use to pay their payroll taxes electronically. One of the provisions of the banking rule is that if an organization elects to redeposit NSF checks electronically, the bad check writers can be charged a fee for this service. This is the source of our income and that is why this service is always FREE to our customers. The fee that we charge is set by the state in which our customer resides.
By utilizing eCollect of Ohio, you will:
More than double your rate of successful redeposits
Free up your employees time that is spent working on this unpleasant task
Avoid the embarassment to your customers by not having to call them
Here's How the Program WorksYour organization accepts and deposits checks following your standard procedures. You are not required to change any procedures to use eCollect of Ohio's services.
When NSF checks are returned by your bank, you can either authorize your bank to send them directly to eCollect of Ohio, or you can still have them come directly into your offices. If we receive the checks, we fax or email copies of the checks that have come in each day to you. If you receive the NSF checks direct, than you would fax or email copies of the checks to us that you want us to work on. Under this second method, you always have the option to pursue collection on any of the checks yourself. You would subsequently mail the original returned checks to us.
eCollect of Ohio than begins a process of monitoring the balances in the check writers' accounts. We have 180 days from the date of the check to electronically redeposit it. We contact banks 5 days a week for as long as necessary. We have established relationships with many banks that will confirm availablity of funds for us where they normally might not confirm funds for others.
When funds are available, we put in for an electronic transfer. We have until 5:00PM each day to do this. When the banks open the next day, electronic transactions are processed first and the funds are grabbed. The ACH Network confirms to us that the funds have been removed and we direct them to whose account to transfer the funds.
